What are GM Ultium batteries?
May 26 2022,
GM has been a leader in electrified vehicle technology for years, and the automaker is now one of the leading manufacturers when it comes to battery technology. At the heart of GM's exceptional electric vehicle development is the Ultium battery technology unveiled in 2020.
These unique batteries have a large-format, pouch-style cells which can be stacked vertically or horizontally inside the battery pack. This allows GM engineers to modify and optimize battery storage depending on the type of vehicle. In turn, this allows GM to develop a wide range of electric vehicles using advanced battery technology at a lower cost. And a lower cost of development means a lower cost for the consumer.
General Motors has always been very sensitive about offering affordable electric vehicles and today offers one of the most accessible electric vehicles with the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt. Because of this impressive new Ultium technology, GM will be able to offer a wide range of new electric vehicles like the Chevrolet Silverado EV or Chevrolet Equinox EV at a more accessible price without compromising functionality or technology.
The Ultium battery offers between 50 and 200 kWh which translates into 400 miles of range, or nearly 700 km. Performance is also impressive with a 0-100 km/h time of just over 3.0 seconds in the most powerful Ultium applications. The other impressive capability of Ultium batteries is the charging. All the Ultium-powered electric vehicles can charge on level II or DC fast charging stations at up to 200 kW for 400 V battery packs and up to 350 kW for 800 V battery packs.
This makes GM electric vehicles some of the most advanced in the world. It will create an upcoming lineup of EV's they deliver both remarkable performance and exceptional range and charging capability. Give us a call today to learn more about GM electric vehicles.
