The 2025 GMC Terrain: A Bolder Look and a Host of Improvements to Come
April 19 2024,
The GMC Terrain will receive an extensive refresh for the 2025 model year, and the automaker has just released the first teaser image for this new generation of the popular compact SUV. Here are some of the things we expect about this new model:
A completely modernized appearance
The 2025 GMC Terrain will benefit from an entirely new exterior design, which will take inspiration from other recent GMC models, such as the brand-new 2024 Acadia. From the image, we know the new Terrain will keep C-Shaped LED headlamps that have been updated for a more modern appearance, and we get a glimpse at the large and assertive front grille, which is painted black on the AT4 trim level for a more rugged look.
More technology inside
The exterior is not the only place where the 2025 Terrain will be all-new, since the interior is also expected to receive its share of improvements. By looking at other GMC and General Motors vehicles that have been updated recently, we can say without much doubt that the new Terrain will receive more tech features than before, starting with the infotainment system. Indeed, the current model is one of the last GMC vehicles to not feature the high-tech Google Built-in system used in the rest of the lineup, and this is almost assuredly going to change with the new model. Other changes we expect to see include a new digital instrument cluster and more advanced driver assistance systems.
Changes under the hood
Since the GMC Terrain shares its platform and mechanical components with the Chevrolet Equinox, we can take a look at what its new-for-2025 version will offer under the hood to have an idea of what to expect in the Terrain. Thus, the new Terrain will likely retain the services of the 1.5L turbocharged engine found the in the current model, but it will pair it with a choice of two new transmissions. Front-wheel drive models should receive a CVT transmission for optimal fuel efficiency and all-wheel drive versions will use a new 8-speed automatic to replace the current 9-speed unit. These changes should help the 2025 Terrain consume less fuel and offer a smoother driving experience.
More interior space
While official figures for the upcoming 2025 GMC Terrain have yet to be released, we can assume that the new model will offer more interior space than its predecessor thanks to a wider body. Indeed, the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox has been widened by 6 centimetres overall, something that will likely translate to the new Terrain. This means that both the passenger compartment and the cargo space should offer more space, making long journeys more comfortable and trips to the store more convenient.
The full details about the next-generation GMC Terrain are expected later this year, when the model is officially revealed.
